Dino Belongs in the Hall

With all the fuss about Bert Blyleven not getting into the Baseball Hall of Fame, a former North Star great’s quest for the Hockey HOF has gone a little unnoticed. Make no mistake about it, Dino Ciccarelli should be in the Hall of Fame. Let’s examine his numbers:

Hockeytown Schmucks in Town

It’s wrong to kick a man when he’s down, right?  That being the case, I shouldn’t mention Detroit’s last game against the Coyotes.  I probably shouldn’t talk about their collapse, giving up 2 goals in the last minutes, going to overtime and losing to a team they’re fighting in the playoff chase.  Taking the high road I shouldn’t write about how their Swedish captain is a shell of his former self, how their goaltending lets in soft goals night after night and I really shouldn’t write about Game 163 either.  Good thing I’m a rightous man, otherwise this post could’ve been really negative.

End the Madness

When will Direct TV and Versus come to terms?  Hopefully soon, my friends.  Not only have a missed the Versus game of the week for the entire season, the playoffs really aren’t that far away and if memory serves, Versus carries a bulk of the playoff action.  It’s hard, very hard, to be a fan of a major professional sports league that isn’t broadcast on your television.

Hockey Day in my Basement 2010

Saturday, February 6, 2010 has been decreed “Hockey Day in my Basement”. I plan on spending the entire doing hockey-related activities to honor the greatest sport. Here is a tentative schedule of events:

Too Much Talent ~ Sykora Waived

Minnesota Wild forward Petr Sykora was placed on waivers by the team today.  Sykora, who was injured early in the season, has until noon on Wednesday to be claimed by another team.  With the emergence of other scorers on the team, Sykora didn’t get much ice team the last few weeks and was often a healthy scratch.  Here’s hoping he catches on with another team.

Antti Miettinen Mania

am
Yes, the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul are experiencing Antti Miettienen Mania. After last night’s 2 goal performance in a 5-2 victory over hapless Roberto Luongo and the Vancouver Canucks, Miettinen Mania has sprung. I actually called a the Hockey Lodge this afternoon and they were down to 3 #20 Miettinen jerseys in stock. The salesperson didn’t say how many they started the day with, bet I’m betting it was near 20.

Blackhawks Overrated

There, I said it. Practically everyone in the hockey world has apparently ordained the Chicago Blackhawks as the upcoming Stanley Cup Champion. Players Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith are as good as Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita and Denis Savard. The only thing holding them back is the meaningless conclusion to the regular season and an easy run through the playoffs.

Bloggers’ Road Trip

It seems like every season the Minnesota Wild are having a road trip where the players bring their fathers along. A few years back it was the moms’ turn and this year the dads are in Chicago on the road trip. Something about team bonding and whatnot. I’m sure tonight’s game on Versus (still not on Directv, by the way) will feature their sideline reporter interviewing some of the dads between puck drops. Odds are good they’ll be wearing their son’s jerseys as well. This bores me.
